NYC 20160813

In an effort to beat the heat and to confuse our jet lag we are still running on Vancouver time loosely.  Waking up on what ended up being the hottest and muggiest of the day's the temperature by the time we made it out of the hotel was 37 feels like 46.  Our plan this day was to go on a tour of the New York Harbour on a Clipper Ship.  Part of our Express Pass included Manhattan by Sail.  We called and made a reservation for the 4:30 sailing.  Today was also the day we attempted the New York Subway.  This was also the day that Adam got a new pair of sandals, they are not pretty but they work.  His previous shoes quite literally melted and the sole just slipped off while walking back from Central Park the day before.
We stopped for Lunch/Breakfast at Pret a Manger and enjoyed some really delicious sandwiches, they make really great sandwiches here!  From there we picked Adam up a pair of sandals and made our way to the Subway Station.  The station platforms are even hotter then the outside, after several minutes of waiting we boarded our train which was blissfully air conditioned.  We have had luck so far running on our time zone.  We are neither rush hour, nor peak eating time, or peak visiting time it seems.
From Time Square we made it to Battery Park at the very end of Manhatten.  We were greeted with a view of the Clipper ship docking to unload its first round of guests.  Trish bought an oversized straw hat to protect her shoulders from the sun and we enjoyed an ice coffee while waiting for boarding and to take in this sights.  Our ship was 106 feet long and the largest commercial vessel in the bay, there was seating for all whereas the ship previous to us seemed to be standing room only.  For the next hour and a half we cruised around the Harbour enjoying the breeze, having a view drinks on the ship and chatting with a group of ladies from Pennsylvania on a girls weekend in New York.  The waters were extremely calm and it was a gorgeous afternoon.  We docked without incident and then taking our time coming back to the hotel decided to wander down Water Street so we could walk down Wall Street.  We had talked with the ladies on the boat about Vancouver Real Estate and then laughed as we walked down Water Street just a block or two away from Wall Street where they were selling Executive residences starting at $695,000 with Penhouses going for a little over $3 mill, we both snorted and thought, 'That's it??'
I was told that Wall Street is smaller than you think and so I wasn't truly shocked about its size.  We made our way back to the subway station and home again.  This was a day that required two showers just due to the heat and humidity.  Once showered and cooled we went across the street to a roof top pub and had a drink and some food before heading over to a dive bar in Hells Kitchen that had great reviews.  I should say that at around 10 pm that night while we were eating it had cooled to 32 - feels like 38.  We made it to Ruddy's probably around midnight and managed to squeeze into a corner in their outside patio and watched some Olympics while keeping cool with some iced beer.  For each jug of beer (or pitcher as we were told) came with 2 hotdogs, which was perfect.  They closed the patio down around 2 and we moved in for another quick drink from the bar before getting a free piece of cheese pizza and making our way home.  It was still so very hot outside and the weather channel and networks kept warning of extreme heat, they were not far off.
