NYC 20160814

The day before we had found an app to put on our phone regarding cheap and last minute theatre tickets.  The big shows that we were thinking of going to did not have anything available during our time, or we had to go on a waiting email list which no mention of price.  We instead went slightly off Broadway with our search and ended up with great deals for Blue Man Group and Drunken Shakespeare.  Tonight was our night for Blue Man Group.  The show was being held at the Astor Place Theatre which was down in the East End.  Back on to the subway looking like travel pro's we headed down to Katz Deli.  This place is famous for it's Pastrami Sandwiches, had been in business since 1888 and is where they shot a portion of When Harry Met Sally, the scene where she really truly and thoroughly enjoys her food.  She was not acting during this scene, the sandwiches are just that good!  Probably coming in around 1 pound each this was our first and really only meal of the day.    After this all we wanted to do was beach ourselves and have another nap, but the show must go on and we wandered around the streets looking at the architecture and checking out some of the side streets and residences while waiting for our show.
We showed up for Will Call, got our tickets and read through some of the 'Prior to entering the theatre' info.  There was notices that this was a 90 minute show with no intermissions, so if you have to pee now is the time.  We were told that there was no filming/photography during the show, so if you wanted to tweet something, message anyone now is the time.  We were told that the Blue Man Group are quite curious and they will be interacting with the audience.  Our theatre was smaller than originally expected but made it for an amazing show.  Probably only seating about 150 people, we were entertained for the whole 90 minutes.  They drummed on the stage, climbed over people's seats, offered cereal to some of the members of the audience, made art for some of the audience and pulled up a couple people onto the stage.  One gentleman was brought up, put into a white overall suit and taken back stage, from there coated in paint, hung upside down and smushed onto a canvas, flipped over and spray painted.  He appeared in a box with his head in cased in jello.
A lady was pulled up onto the stage, had a protective apron put on and feasted with the group on twinkies.  The smaller jello mold that was brought out was catapulted into the audience.  Toilet paper was pulled from the back to the front and then shot out over the audience while strobe lights pulsed.  There was never a dull moment.  One couple that came in 20 minutes late had a spot light put on them while the crew sung 'You are late, you are late'.  Once they were seated the show started back up again.  It was a great time for both the old and new.
